SARASOTA, Fla. – More good injury news greeted the Orioles today upon their return from Clearwater.
Chris Tillman is scheduled to throw off a flat mound for the first time Wednesday at the Ed Smith Stadium complex.
It’s still considered a mound despite the lack of height to it. Don’t overthink it.
Tillman had been shut down after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection in his right shoulder in December, but he’s been long-tossing as part of his progression.

Tillman had been shut down after receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection in his right shoulder in December, but he’s been long-tossing as part of his progression.
Tillman’s streak of three straight opening day starts is in jeopardy, but an assignment to the 10-day disabled list could be backdated to March 30 and make him available on April 9.
Closer Zach Britton, who had been shut down after experiencing soreness in his left side the day after a bullpen session, played catch today. He extended the distance to 90 feet without any issues, again leaving the Orioles encouraged.
The cautious approach really did prove to be the right one.
Reliever Logan Ondrusek, who rolled his right ankle in a fielding drill, will throw live batting practice on Wednesday. If the session goes well, he should be ready to pitch in an exhibition game.
Shortstop J.J. Hardy’s back continues to improve, according to manager Buck Showalter. Nothing has occurred that would jeopardize his availability on opening day.
Ryan Flaherty still is expected to play in one of Thursday’s split-squad games. Showalter is giving him an extra day to rest his right shoulder.
