DUNEDIN, Fla. – An MRI on Jimmy Paredes’ left wrist this morning revealed a bone bruise. He’ll continue to wear a plastic cast for an undetermined length of time.
Manager Buck Showalter said it will “be a while” before Paredes is cleared to play.
“He’s real sore,” Showalter said.
Asked whether Paredes is done for the spring, Showalter replied, “I wouldn’t say that yet.”

Showalter said Brian Matusz has been diagnosed with a strained serratus muscle on the lower right side of his back. Matusz, who worked one inning in Wednesday’s home opener against the Braves, probably would be on the disabled list if this were the regular season.
Unless there’s an unexpected setback, Matusz should be sidelined one to two weeks.
Chris Tillman threw another bullpen session today and will advance to live batting practice on Monday. His left hip appears to be fine.
“Tillman’s side work went real well today,” Showalter said. “He feels great, so that’s good.”
Yovani Gallardo will throw live batting practice on Saturday.
Tyler Wilson is starting Saturday’s split-squad game against the Twins in Fort Myers, and the Orioles also will bring Odisamer Despaigne, Jason Garcia, Chris Lee, Parker Bridwell, Andy Oliver, Nick Additon, Donnie Hart, David Hess and Tanner Scott.
Kevin Gausman is starting the night game against the Rays in Sarasota. Other available pitchers include Zach Britton, Darren O’Day, Mychal Givens, Todd Redmond, Dale Thayer, Jon Keller and Rich Rodriguez.
Mike Wright is starting Sunday’s game against the Red Sox in Fort Myers. Boston is sending Clay Buchholz to the mound.
As for todays’ game, Vance Worley walked a batter in a scoreless first inning. That’s progress for the starters, considering that Ubaldo Jimenez was charged with six runs in one-third of an inning on Wednesday and Miguel Gonzalez was charged with seven runs yesterday in 1 1/3 innings.
Mark Trumbo singled in the first inning and Dariel Alvarez blooped a single down the right field line in the second, before Francisco Pena grounded into a 4-6-3 double play.
