Ike Irish, the Orioles’ first pick in the 2025 draft and their No. 2 prospect in MLB Pipeline rankings, tore the meniscus in his left knee and went on High-A Frederick’s injured list.

Irish is expected to miss the rest of the season. He hasn’t undergone surgery.

The injury occurred Wednesday when Irish slid into second base. And it happened as Irish seemed to be pushing for another bump in the system.

Irish was batting .286/.388/.528 with 20 doubles, a triple, 16 home runs and 59 RBIs in 76 games. He spent 2025 with Class A Delmarva and hit .230 with a .594 OPS in 20 games.

The Orioles drafted Irish as a catcher with the 19th overall selection out of Auburn Universiti but moved him to first base and the outfield. He became one of the true breakout prospects this season.

No. 1 prospect Nate George also is on the injured list with an undisclosed illness.

In other injury news, Delmarva infielder Cobb Hightower underwent left knee ACL reconstruction and meniscus repair with Dr. Leigh Ann Curl in Baltimore.

Hightower only played in 18 games this season between Delmarva and the Florida Complex League and batted a combined .343 with an .858 OPS.

The Orioles got him from the Padres last summer in the Ryan O’Hearn/Ramón Laureano trade.

The Orioles recalled left-hander Josh Walker from Triple-A Norfolk. He was on the taxi squad.

Walker gives the Orioles 13 pitchers, with eight relievers and two lefties in the bullpen.

Cade Povich is listed to start Game 1 today of Norfolk’s doubleheader against Charlotte. He was on the Orioles’ taxi squad.
