We can start with Jake Arrieta’s marathon first inning, and how his pitch count stands at 57 through the third.
We can proceed to the 3-0 deficit, and how Arrieta has allowed five hits and walked a batter.

Garrett Atkins, in his first at-bat since June 14, grounded into a 5-2-3 double play with the bases loaded and no outs.
Patterson thought he had a home run in the third, but Nats center fielder Nyjer Morgan made one of the most amazing catches I’ve ever seen, leaping so far above the fence that I thought he might crack his head on the bottom of the video board.

Rehab updates: Michael Gonzalez threw another scoreless inning for the Gulf Coast Orioles, striking out one and getting two fly balls.
Felix Pie is 1-for-2 as Single-A Frederick’s designated hitter.
