The Orioles couldn’t work out a trade for Fox, who hit .188 with two homers in 19 games.

Fox was the talk of spring training after belting 10 home runs – 11 if you count the intrasquad game – and he beat out Craig Tatum for the backup catching job. Fox will have to find at-bats at Norfolk, where Josh Bell starts at third base and Brandon Snyder starts at first.

Fox could make some starts in left field. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to start him behind the plate, too, if the club wants him to improve defensively and refine his game-calling skills.

Update: The Orioles have officially recalled infielder Brandon Snyder from Triple-A Norfolk. Snyder will fill Lee’s void on the roster, as the first baseman spends time on the bereavement list to attend his grandfather’s funeral.
