Adam Jones doesn’t think he’ll be cleared to play for a few more days because of soreness in his upper back. Felix Pie is starting in center field tonight.
“He had that one swing that really bit him last night,” manager Buck Showalter said.
Update: Jones was given the option of receiving a cortisone injection, but he’s undecided. He’s never had one. For now, he still hopes to return in a few days.

Showalter said it’s too soon to determine whether the club will call up an outfielder from the minors.
Corey Patterson is receiving treatment on the back of his neck, which remains sore after he slammed into the fence in Chicago while chasing a fly ball. He couldn’t do anything last night after attempting to take some swings with hitting coach Terry Crowley, but he might be available to pinch-run tonight. That’s about it.
Good thing the roster has expanded.
Showalter said the club hasn’t discussed “in definitive terms” whether to shut down reliever Alfredo Simon. Showalter liked Simon’s velocity last night, but not his pitch location. The ball was up.
“We’ll continue to monitor it,” Showalter said.
Reliever David Hernandez is expected to join Double-A Bowie’s roster this weekend. The Baysox will be in Richmond.
Pacific Coast League umpire Angel Campos has been summoned for tonight’s game, taking the place of Tom Hallion, who was hit on the left arm by Nick Markakis’ foul ball last night with two outs in the ninth inning. X-rays taken after the game were negative.
