Center fielder Adam Jones beat out shortstop J.J. Hardy by one vote for Most Valuable Oriole. I expected a close count, but that’s taking it to the extreme.

“It’s a tremendous honor,” Jones said. “Played a hard season, a long season. There’s a lot of deserving guys…I’m hearing now that it’s highly unlikely that the Orioles make an announcement tomorrow regarding president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail. “It’s a tremendous honor,” Jones said. “Played a hard season, a long season. There’s a lot of deserving guys who’ve had great years. Hardy had a hell of a year. (Matt) Wieters had a great year. Jim Johnson had a hell of a year. A lot of worthy years.”

Jones would prefer going to the playoffs.

“Individual accomplishments are cool,” he said. “It means nothing if the team doesn’t (win.)”

Jones is batting .281 with 26 doubles, two triples, 25 homers, 83 RBIs, 12 stolen bases, a .320 on-base percentage and a .467 slugging percentage.

“Exciting that I’m getting better,” he said. “I think that’s what I set out last offseason to do. Every year, and this offseason is going to be the same.”

Can he move up another level and continue to get better?

“Maybe more than one level,” he replied. “Maybe four or five. Who knows what I can do? I don’t know what I can do. Go out there and play as hard as I can and put the numbers up. After today, the numbers speak for themselves.”

Asked if he’s optimistic about the future of the club, Jones replied, “I think Buck has a good idea what he wants to do. I’ll leave it at that. I think he has a pretty good idea what he wants to do, so I’m excited to see what he’s going to do. I’ve talked to him a couple of times.”
