masn-baseballs-orioles.jpgEven though they won their eighth game in a row on Wednesday night, the Frederick Keys were not in a mood to celebrate much after their game at Potomac.

Two of their key players, first baseman Tyler Townsend and outfielder Trent Mummey both left the game with hamstring injuries within minutes of each other in the fifth inning of a 6-4 win.

Mummey’s hamstring appears to be the more serious of the two at this point.

Mummey, playing center field, was running into the gap in right center…Even though they won their eighth game in a row on Wednesday night, the Frederick Keys were not in a mood to celebrate much after their game at Potomac.

Two of their key players, first baseman Tyler Townsend and outfielder Trent Mummey both left the game with hamstring injuries within minutes of each other in the fifth inning of a 6-4 win.

Mummey’s hamstring appears to be the more serious of the two at this point.

Mummey, playing center field, was running into the gap in right center chasing a drive off the bat of Ryan Zimmerman, who was playing on a rehab assignment for Potomac, when he went to the ground, hurt his right hamstring and had to be helped from the field.

Mummey was playing just his fifth game since returning to the team off the disabled list. He had missed time earlier due to a concussion. Mummey is batting .293 in 15 Keys games with one homer and 10 RBIs.

That play happened in the last of the fifth. In the top half of that inning, Townsend pulled up running to first base after hitting a groundball.

Townsend has been the team’s best hitter batting .317 in 52 games with 19 doubles, 10 homers and 39 RBIs. He was limited to 52 games last year by hamstring injuries.
