SARASOTA – Andrew Kittredge has a “low probability” of being on the Opening Day roster, according to manager Craig Albernaz, due to right shoulder inflammation that’s limited the veteran reliever to one appearance.
Kittredge hasn’t pitched since Feb. 25, when he allowed two earned runs and three total in one-third of an inning. He began last season on the injured list after undergoing knee surgery, making his Orioles debut on May 21.
In other news, Jackson Holliday will swing with both hands for the first time on Thursday after his hamate bone surgery. Closer Félix Bautista said via interpreter Brandon Quinones that he threw for the first time yesterday since his shoulder surgery last summer, making 25 tosses from about 45 feet. And Tyler Wells officially has been told that he’s going to be used in relief this season.
Shane Baz makes his second exhibition start this afternoon while the Orioles host the Astros.
Baz tossed 2 1/3 scoreless and hitless innings against the Pirates in Bradenton, with two walks and four strikeouts.
Colton Cowser is leading off and playing center field. Heston Kjerstad is in right field and Coby Mayo is at third base.
Pete Alonso, who homered yesterday against Team Netherlands, is serving as designated hitter. Ryan Mountcastle is the first baseman and Thairo Estrada is at second base.
Adley Rutschman is catching.
