SARASOTA, Fla. – Orioles first baseman Derrek Lee will stay back in camp today and hit soft tosses in the indoor cage. He doesn’t expect to debut tomorrow because of “general soreness” in his right wrist area, and he won’t project when he’ll enter the starting lineup.
“I don’t want to put days on it,” he said. “I probably made that mistake the first time. When it feels good enough to go out there, I’ll go out there.

“I haven’t done anything today, so I’m not sure where it is today. Obviously, it didn’t work out for yesterday. Hopefully soon.”
Lee says his surgically repaired thumb is fine. He developed soreness in the wrist a few days ago from doing “a lot of activity.”
“Something I didn’t even think about was the atrophy here,” he said. “I had a lot of atrophy here from being in a cast. Just pushing it like I did, it got a little sore.”
Lee hasn’t determined that he needs a specific number of at-bats to get ready for the season.
“I’ll never be worried,” he said. “Obviously, you want to be in the games now, but I’m not worried. As long as I’m able to run out there on opening day, I’ll be happy.
“This is a little different. It isn’t the pain, it’s the rehab process. I’m not going to fight through the soreness during the rehab process. I want to get it to 100 percent before I go out there so there’s nothing lingering. If it was just, I dove on it and it was sore like this, yeah, I would play, but being in the rehab process, I’m not sure.”
