The Orioles scratched Jordan Lyles for today’s start against the Rays and replaced him with Austin Voth.
An explanation is coming later.
Lyles hasn’t gone more than 5 1/3 innings in his last four starts, and his ERA has risen from 4.10 to 5.10. No word on how today’s switch impacts the rotation moving forward.
The Orioles are off Monday.
Voth has made three relief appearances and allowed two runs in 3 1/3 innings since the Orioles claimed him off waivers from the Nationals.
Voth’s last start was June 6, 2021 in Philadelphia, when he tossed two scoreless and hitless innings. He’s faced the Rays twice in his career, including one start, and allowed one run in six innings.
Adley Rutschman is catching, Ryan McKenna is in right field and Anthony Santander is the designated hitter. Trey Mancini is getting a rest day.
Ryan Mountcastle has an eight-game hitting streak. He’s batting .400 (14-for-35) with four doubles, four home runs, nine RBIs and five multi-hit games during the streak.
Robinson Chirinos tied his career high yesterday with two doubles and has four in his last three games. He had three hits for the first time since Aug. 13, 2021.
Corey Kluber has faced the Orioles twice in 2022 and allowed two runs and eight hits in 7 2/3 innings. He tossed 4 2/3 scoreless innings in his Rays debut on April 10.
Kluber is 5-1 with a 3.07 ERA and 1.200 WHIP in 12 career starts against the Orioles.
