M’s use a somewhat-rare homer to grab the lead on the Orioles

The Mariners don’t hit many homers but they used a two-run shot from Adam Kennedy to take a 2-0 lead tonight against the Orioles. They hold a 2-1 edge in the third.
Kennedy’s homer came in the top of the second and just made it over the leaping attempt by right fielder Nick Markakis. It was his third homer of the year and first since he homered in back-to-back games on April 20 and 21.
It’s the sixth homer allowed by Jake Arrieta, who has now given up a homer in four straight…The Mariners don’t hit many homers but they used a two-run shot from Adam Kennedy to take a 2-0 lead tonight against the Orioles. They hold a 2-1 edge in the third.

Seattle entered today with just 18 total runs scored over its last eight games and with just one homer in its last nine games.
The Mariners’ 17 homers at the start of today’s game ranked 29th in the major leagues.
Seattle, which has won eight of its last 12 games, has won the season series the last two years versus the Orioles, going 5-4 in 2009 and 6-3 last year.
The Mariners are 5-3 in their last eight games at Camden Yards, but are just 36-59 all-time in the Birds’ home yard.
