Machado is appealing the suspension and his name appears in tonight’s lineup against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.
No word yet on the length of Ventura’s suspension. The right-hander triggered the incident by drilling Machado in the lower back with a 99 mph fastball.

The Rangers’ Rougned Odor was suspended eight games earlier this season for punching Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista in the face as retaliation for a hard slide into second base. It was reduced to seven games upon appeal.
The length of Machado’s suspension reflects how he was provoked by Ventura, who also threw inside to him twice in the previous at-bat before hitting him with his first pitch in the fifth.
This is the second suspension for Machado, who missed five games in 2014 after throwing his bat in the direction of third base in a game against the Athletics. Machado also appealed, but it was upheld.
Machado is the current active leader in consecutive games started at 220 games. The Rangers’ Adrian Beltre is second at 151.
USA Today’s Bob Nightengale first reported that Machado received a four-game suspension today.
Chris Davis returns to the Orioles’ lineup after sitting out yesterday.
