Before he heads back to Sarasota tomorrow to continue his rehab, Orioles third baseman Manny Machado will collect some hardware here today.
He will pick up his Gold Glove and also a Platinum Glove, given to the best individual defender in each league.
Machado still doesn’t know when he will be able to play in a game. He wishes he did, but said you really can’t put a timetable on his recovery from left knee surgery – not even this deep into the process.

Machado still doesn’t know when he will be able to play in a game. He wishes he did, but said you really can’t put a timetable on his recovery from left knee surgery – not even this deep into the process.
“You just can’t, you really can’t,” he said this morning in the O’s clubhouse. “You want to, but you don’t know how this is going to pan out. The surgery I had for it, you can’t put a timetable to it.”
Where is he at right now? Has he resumed running yet?
“I’m doing some stuff. Not necessarily running, but we’re at the point that we need to start strengthening it a little more, just to get back on the ground and start sprinting and getting back to 100 percent,” Machado said. “Getting the quads stable enough to continue doing what I’ve been doing.”
He was slowed late in camp when some scar tissue was breaking up. That was normal, but Machado said he is still dealing with some of that.
“No, it’s still there,” he said. “It’s not something that goes away in a matter of a second. But it’s definitely getting better, I can tell you that. It’s still not completely gone but it feels good.”
Steve Cohen from Rawlings is here today to present J.J. Hardy, Adam Jones and Machado their 2013 Gold Gloves and Machado gets the Platinum Glove as well.
“It’s awesome. I’ve always dreamed about the Gold Glove. To receive two today is a privilege and I’ve very honored and humbled,” he said.
