Left-hander Brian Matusz will make his first injury rehab start on May 16 at Single-A Frederick.
Matusz threw two innings yesterday in an extended spring training game in Sarasota. He’ll throw a 35-pitch bullpen session tomorrow and go three innings Wednesday in another extended game. Assuming there are no setbacks, he’ll pitch for the Keys at Harry Grove Stadium in his first affiliated game.

Alfredo Simon will pitch Wednesday at Double-A Bowie after throwing a bullpen session today. He’s tentatively scheduled to join Triple-A Norfolk and start the May 16 game at Lehigh Valley.
Shortstop J.J. Hardy is expected to serve as Norfolk’s designated hitter today. He’ll stay with the Tides on Monday and could rejoin the Orioles on Tuesday.
Catcher Craig Tatum had a cortisone injection in his sore shoulder and is feeling better after going on the disabled list yesterday. The Orioles are discussing the possibility of recalling him once he’s healthy.
