McDermott on taxi squad, tonight's Orioles lineup

The Orioles have brought pitcher Chayce McDermott to Baltimore and put him on the 24-hour medical taxi squad.

McDermott is here in case Dean Kremer’s forearm soreness necessitates a stay on the injured list.

Samuel Basallo is catching again tonight after his walk-off home run with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning – which also was his first homer at Camden Yards.

Jeremiah Jackson stays in right field, Emmanuel Rivera remains at third base and Coby Mayo stays at first base. Dylan Beavers is the left fielder.

Trevor Rogers has a 1.39 ERA, the lowest by any Orioles starter in his first 14 games. He’s allowed one run in seven innings in each of his last four outings, and one run in each of his last six.

The lefty has worked at least six innings and allowed one run or fewer in each of his last seven starts. Since Bob Gibson had a streak of 11 starts in 1968, the only pitchers to reach eight are Jon Lester (2016), Josh Johnson (2010) and J.R. Richard (1979).

Rogers made his only career start against Los Angeles in 2021 and allowed two runs and six hits with eight strikeouts in five innings.

Rogers has struck out 38.2 percent of the left-handers that he’s faced in his last seven starts. He struck out 20.8 percent in his first seven starts, per STATS.

This series is the first to feature a Japanese starter in all three games. The Dodgers are sending right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto to the mound tonight. The Orioles are starting Tomoyuki Sugano on Sunday afternoon.

Yamamoto is 11-8 with a 2.82 ERA and 1.050 WHIP in 26 outings. He’s struck out 167 batters in 146 2/3 innings.

Yamamoto registered quality starts in his last three games in August to give him 15 for the season. He’s never faced the Orioles.
