The 26th man must return to the minors after the nightcap.

McFarland is 0-1 with a 4.73 ERA in eight relief appearances this season. He threw five scoreless innings on April 22 in Kansas City.

To make room for Janish on the 40-man roster, the Orioles have designated right-handed pitcher Scott McGough for assignment.

McGough, 26, went a combined 0-1 with a 12.96 ERA in 8 1/3 innings between Triple-A New Orleans and Norfolk. The Orioles claimed him off waivers from the Marlins on April 15.

McGough allowed eight runs and seven hits in 5 2/3 innings with the Tides over six relief appearances. He also walked three batters and struck out six.

Janish, 33, batted .329/.364/.356 with two doubles, two RBIs and eight runs scored in 21 games with Norfolk. He’s at shortstop today for Game 1.

The Orioles are 169-141-287 (sweep-swept-split) in doubleheaders since the franchise moved to Baltimore in 1954. They’re 102-65-166 at home.
