The Orioles outhit the Blue Jays, 16-5. Chris Tillman walked only one batter over six innings.
So why aren’t they celebrating a win?
Because, as a reader pointed out earlier today, Tillman didn’t need to worry about walks. The Jays come out swinging like Hugh Hefner in a smoking jacket.
Unfortunately, they also connect.

Unfortunately, they also connect.
Jose Bautista homered twice, giving him 52 on the year and more explaining to do, and Vernon Wells also took Tillman deep. That’s three more home runs on the season for a team that’s never seen a pitch it couldn’t mash.
Tillman gave up five runs on only four hits because he couldn’t keep his opponent in the ballpark. As manager Buck Showalter likes to say, he shouldn’t feel like the Jays were picking on him. They do this sort of thing to everyone.
You can feel good about Nolan Reimold going 3-for-5 with an RBI in a rare start. And Brandon Snyder going 2-for-4 with an RBI in an even rarer start. But a two-game losing streak feels much longer with Showalter at the helm.
