CHICAGO – Tsuyoshi Wada threw 100 pitches in six innings in his last extended spring training start, and the Orioles were looking for the Japanese left-hander to do more of the same today.
He didn’t come close.

Wada is on an injury rehab assignment, which can last 30 days for a pitcher. The Orioles haven’t set a date to activate him.
Today’s outing most certainly will extend Wada’s assignment.
“We’ll see. It’s not close-ended or open-ended,” manager Buck Showalter said.
“We were talking to him and his agent. They’re aware that he wasn’t ready physically and everybody really wants him to start right. If it has to be extended, I think we’re comfortable doing that.”
Wada was limited in spring training because of inflammation in his left elbow. His contract doesn’t allow the Orioles to option him without his permission.
Update: Three of the first four batters reached in the first inning against White Sox starter Gavin Floyd, and the Orioles took a 2-0 lead.
Endy Chavez walked to open the inning. J.J. Hardy struck out, Nick Markakis singled and Adam Jones delivered an RBI double. Nick Johnson grounded out to score Markakis.
Credit Jones with a hustle double into right-center field. It looked like a single when the ball left his bat.
