First baseman Ryan Mountcastle was supposed to begin his injury rehab assignment tonight at Triple-A Norfolk. However, the Orioles reported that Mountcastle is being reevaluated.

Mountcastle hasn’t played since fracturing the fourth metatarsal his left foot while running out a double on April 11. The break caused him to stumble, and it forced him on the injured list again.

Manager Craig Albernaz told the media in Detroit that Mountcastle wasn’t feeling 100 percent and the club should know more about his condition Wednesday. The Orioles don’t want him beginning a rehab assignment if he isn’t fully ready for it.

Mountcastle’s season has consisted of only eight games, with four hits in 14 at-bats, after he signed a $6.787 contract in January that included a $7.5 million option for 2027.

Chris Bassitt is starting tonight for the Tides in his first outing since June 3 in Boston. He’s on the 60-day injured list after undergoing surgery to remove a bone spur from his lower back.

Bassitt has made 12 appearances, including 10 starts, and posted a 5.27 ERA and 1.633 WHIP in 56 1/3 innings. He’s eligible to return Aug. 4.

Catchers Adley Rutschman and Samuel Basallo are continuing their rehabilitations from left wrist and right shoulder injuries, respectively, will be reassessed to progress baseball activities during the upcoming homestand.

The Orioles host the Phillies this weekend and the Angels after an off-day that falls on the trade deadline.

Reliever Colin Selby is receiving a second opinion today on his right shoulder from Dr. Neal ElAttrache in Los Angeles. Selby has missed the entire season.

*Outfielder/first baseman Ike Irish, the organization’s No. 2 prospect, underwent a left knee meniscectomy procedure with Dr. Leigh Ann Curl in Baltimore.

Also, left-hander Andy Fabian underwent a left elbow UCL reconstruction surgery with Curl in Baltimore.
