(Washington D.C.) -- On Friday, June 26th, Nationals Manager Manny Acta will speak to area youth at Boys Town Washington D.C. as part of his continuing relationship with MASN. His talk "How Life is a lot like Baseball," will offer words of inspiration to the children. Acta will also sign autographs, take pictures and distribute Nationals baseball caps to the children and youth. MASN will donate tickets to Saturday's Nationals vs. Orioles game to each of the participants. Several dozen children are expected to participate in the event, which begins at 10:30 a.m. at Boys Town Washington D.C. in northeast Washington.
Boys Town is a national organization that sponsors residential care for abused, neglected, runaway youth or youth who have been in trouble due to delinquent activities. The organization also works on treatment and skill building in the home, teaching children the skills and character necessary to become productive contributing members of society.
In his talk, Manager Manny Acta will offer the youth a motivating message about staying positive and making good decisions. Known for his upbeat demeanor and positive attitude, Manny will also talk to the group about overcoming obstacles in life. Raised in the Dominican Republic, Acta dreamed of playing professional baseball. After several years in the minor leagues, Acta realized that his true potential was as a coach. He quickly excelled through baseball and, at 37, was named Nationals manager in November of 2006, making him the youngest manager in MLB at the time. As skipper, he presides over a re-building franchise, always preaching patience and staying positive even when times are tough.
The event is part of an ongoing partnership between Acta and MASN to promote the ImpACTA Kids Foundation and MASN's efforts in the community. In March, Acta began an exclusive blog on MASNsports.com, where he also hosts a monthly bilingual video blog.
