Before tonight’s game, MASN O’s broadcaster and former Oriole Dave Johnson will present Nick Markakis with the Heart and Hustle Award.
The Award is voted upon by members of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association, who look to honor a player from each team who represents the “intangible values of a true team player and leader” and who “demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game.”

The Award is voted upon by members of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association, who look to honor a player from each team who represents the “intangible values of a true team player and leader” and who “demonstrates a passion for the game of baseball and best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the game.”
More than 3,500 members of the Major League Baseball Players Alumni Association will then vote to select one player out of all 30 recipients (one from each Major League team) to be the final Heart and Hustle Award winner.
The final winner will be announced at the Legends for Youth Dinner, an event designed to recognize former Major League players for their on-field accomplishments and off-field contributions to their communities.
This year’s dinner will be held in New York City on November 6, so Orioles fans will have to wait a little while to find out if Markakis will be selected as the overall winner.
