Chicago scored single runs off Miguel Gonzalez in the first, second and fourth innings and beat the Orioles 4-2 tonight in front of 20,596 at Camden Yards.

The Orioles lost for just the second time in seven games to fall to 17-18 at home and 40-36 for the season.

Gonzalez gave up a homer to the second batter he faced, Gordon Beckham, and several loud hits early on. He pitched out of a bases-loaded jam with no outs in…This time there was no ninth-inning magic. No comeback. Not even a lead.

Gonzalez gave up a homer to the second batter he faced, Gordon Beckham, and several loud hits early on. He pitched out of a bases-loaded jam with no outs in the fifth to keep the O’s deficit at 3-0 at that point.

Over five innings, Gonzalez gave up nine hits and three runs with three walks and one strikeout. He threw 87 pitches and is now 4-5 with an ERA of 4.48.

Over his last two starts since coming off the disabled list, Gonzalez has pitched 10 innings, allowing 17 hits and seven runs. Before his DL stint, he gave up two earned runs in each of his previous four starts.

After scoring 20 runs the last three games, the Orioles offense was slowed tonight by Chicago lefty Jose Quintana. He held the Orioles to three singles through five frames before Steve Pearce led off the sixth with his seventh homer to make it a 3-1 deficit. The O’s went 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position against Quintana.

That was the only run they got until a brief rally in the ninth and a pinch-hit RBI single by Delmon Young. But Ryan Flaherty grounded into a game-ending double play with two on as the White Sox took the win.

In the series finale on Wednesday night, Ubaldo Jimenez (2-8, 4.63 ERA) looks for his first home win against right-hander Hector Noesi (2-5, 5.34 ERA).
