An MRI taken this morning on Bud Norris’ groin revealed a strain on the right side that most likely will force the Orioles into making a roster move.

Norris doesn’t figure to be available for his next start, which can be pushed back to Tuesday. In that scenario, the Orioles will place him on the 15-day disabled list.

The move would be retroactive to Sunday, making Norris eligible to return on July 7 when the Orioles begin a two-game road series against the Nationals.

“It looks like he has a strain,” said executive vice president Dan Duquette. “If that’s the case, he would miss his next start, and if he’s going to miss his next start, then we would probably put him on the disabled list and he can come back for his following start.”

The Orioles would need a starter on Tuesday due to Friday’s doubleheader against the Rays at Camden Yards. They could pluck T.J. McFarland out of their bullpen.

Norris was on a roll before sustaining the injury during Saturday afternoon’s game at Yankee Stadium. He’s allowed two runs over his last 19 2/3 innings and is 7-5 with a 3.62 ERA in 14 starts.

“He just needs a little more rest,” Duquette said.

Kevin Gausman was supposed to be added to the roster Friday as the 26th player and start Game 1 of the doubleheader. He would have been optioned back to the minors and recalled in time to take his next turn.

Now, he could replace Norris and someone else would be tabbed as the 26th player. Gausman doesn’t need to stay down 10 days if he’s substituting for an injured player.

Gausman has been transferred from Double-A Bowie, where he threw a bullpen session this week, to the Orioles’ taxi squad.

Chris Tillman will start Game 2 of the doubleheader. Wei-Yin Chen could start Saturday and Miguel Gonzalez Sunday on regular rest.

Ubaldo Jimenez could start Monday on regular rest in the opener of a four-game series against the Rangers at Camden Yards.

Meanwhile, left-hander Mark Hendrickson is still waiting to find out whether the Orioles will sign him to a minor league deal after throwing at Camden Yards earlier this week.

“It’s still under consideration,” Duquette said.
