Rather than continue to work a man short in the bullpen, the Orioles have placed Bud Norris on the 15-day disabled list with bronchitis and recalled pitcher Tyler Wilson from Triple-A Norfolk.
Norris’ illness led to Mike Wright making his major league debut yesterday against the Angels. Wright had been in the bullpen as the replacement for Rule 5 pick Jason Garcia, who’s on the disabled list with right shoulder tendinitis, but he’s needed in the rotation.

The Orioles were reluctant to put Norris in a relief role while he’s unable to pitch.
The move is retroactive to May 11, enabling Norris to return on May 26 while the Orioles are home against the Astros. An extra starter is needed two days later for the makeup doubleheader against the White Sox.
Norris is 1-4 with a 9.88 ERA in six starts, with 30 runs and 38 hits allowed in 27 1/3 innings. He registered back-to-back quality starts before lasting only 3 1/3 innings in his most recent outing against the Yankees.
The Orioles have used the disabled list 12 times this season, with Norris being the 11th different player. Ryan Flaherty has been shelved twice with a strained right groin.
Wilson, 25, could become the fourth Oriole to make his major league debut this season, following Garcia, Wright and infielder Rey Navarro. He was scratched from Saturday’s start in Indianapolis and flew into Baltimore as insurance.
Wilson is 2-4 with a 3.43 ERA in seven starts with Norfolk. He was named the organization’s minor league Pitcher of the Year in 2014 after going 14-8 with a 3.67 ERA in 28 starts between Norfolk and Double-A Bowie.
The Orioles selected Wilson in the 10th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Virginia.
