The Orioles have agreed to terms with Glynn Davis, an 18-year-old shortstop from Catonsville Community College near Baltimore.
The right-handed hitter and thrower was the youngest player on the Catonsville CC team this past season and was a Juco All-American. He hit .430 with 10 homers and 35 steals. Davis was named Catonsville CC’s Male Athlete of the Year.

Speed is said to be his best tool and reports say he runs as well as some of the fastest players currently in the O’s minors like Xavier Avery. The 6’3″, 170-pound Davis played on the Youse’s Orioles team this summer that won a AAABA national championship in Johnstown, Pennsylvania. He played some outfield in that event and could play center field in the O’s minors.
The Orioles feel they got a hidden gem, a player that went not scouted by most of baseball this year at Catonsville. They gave him a bonus that was the equivalent to what some top ten round picks got in this past draft.
They were happy to sign him now because after the tourney in Pennsylvania, Davis was no longer under the radar with many scouts.
The Orioles had Davis out at Camden Yards for pre-draft workout and O’s scout Chris Gale also saw him play at Catonsville.
Davis, who had a college commitment to Central Florida, agreed to a 2011 contract.
