LOS ANGELES – The Orioles made four roster moves today in advance of their series opener in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. They recalled outfielder Dariel Alvarez from Triple-A Norfolk and left-hander Jayson Aquino from Double-A Bowie. LOS ANGELES – The Orioles made four roster moves today in advance of their series opener in Los Angeles against the Dodgers. They recalled outfielder Dariel Alvarez from Triple-A Norfolk and left-hander Jayson Aquino from Double-A Bowie. They placed Pedro Alvarez on the bereavement list and optioned left-hander Ariel Miranda to Norfolk.
The 27-year-old Dariel Alvarez hit .271/.309/.363 with three home runs, 21 doubles, and 33 RBIs over 82 games this season with Norfolk. He made his big league debut last season by hitting .241/.290/.370 (7-for-29) over 12 games for the Orioles.
Aquino, 23, went 4-7 with a 3.25 ERA and 55 strikeouts over 14 appearances (13 starts) with Bowie this season. He held hitters to a .269 batting average while allowing 22 walks. He has pitched well recently with an ERA of 1.80 over his last six starts for the Baysox. In his most recent start last Wednesday, he pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing just two hits versus Harrisburg.

Aquino was acquired by the Orioles April 7 from St. Louis for cash considerations and has gone 36-44 with a 2.98 ERA and 546 strikeouts over 113 career minor league appearances (111 starts) with the Colorado, Toronto, Pittsburgh, Cleveland, and Baltimore organizations. Aquino’s first appearance with the Orioles will be his Major League debut. He will wear No. 64.
Pedro Ãlvarez has hit .242/.317/.461 with nine doubles, nine home runs and 26 RBIs over 53 games. He is headed to the Dominican Republic due to a death in his family and will likely rejoin the team at home on Friday.
Miranda, 27, made his MLB debut yesterday at Seattle by striking out four batters over two innings while allowing three runs. and four hits.
The Orioles look to break their four-game losing streak tonight at Dodger Stadium against a Los Angeles team that is 47-37 and has won 14 of 19 games. The Dodgers have won nine in a row at Dodger Stadium, their longest home win streak since early in the 2009 when they won 13 straight.
