It was a night where he pitched well, but got little, or should we say, no run support.

“I worry about things I can control and scoring runs is obviously something I can’t control. You know, I feel like if I go out and pitch well and give us a chance, I’ve done my job.

“If I felt like guys weren’t trying it’d be a different story, but everybody is going out there trying to put the ball in play, trying to get hits and score runs, it just didn’t happen for us today.”

Over his last 21 starts, the O’s have scored just 44 runs while Millwood was in the game. That’s just 2.1 per game as he falls to 2-13, 5.49.

Millwood’s career high for losses is 14 in 2007 with Texas.

It was Millwood’s 10th quality start of the year and his third in a row. His ERA is 2.14 over his past three starts.

“I felt like I threw the ball well. I thought our defense was really good. Pie made some great plays in left. Jonesy ran some balls down in center and our infield played a good ballgame. Once again, the other guy was just a little bit better. Not much you can do.”

Millwood took a shutout into the fifth, but gave up a leadoff single to Adam Moore, then an RBI double to Matt Tuiasosopo as the Mariners broke up the scoreless duel to that point.

“I wanted to go in off the plate and it caught the corner. Wasn’t a bad pitch. You kind of tip your hat, he hit a good pitch.”

The O’s Josh Bell broke up French’s no-hit bid with a single in the sixth and added a double two innings later.

“I got some pitches to hit and put some good swings on it. The last couple of games I’m just trying to get out of this funk I’ve been in,” Bell said.

As he came to the plate in the sixth, he knew the Orioles had a goose egg in the hits column.

“I was aware of it, but not trying to stress the point, just wanted to hit the ball hard.

“He threw a great game with good location and a good change-up. His change of speeds was tough.”

The O’s and Mariners series is now even at a win each and they’ll decide this series on Wednesday night when Jeremy Guthrie faces David Pauley.
