Five different O’s drove in runs as the Orioles posted thier first series win this year vs. an AL East opponent other than Boston and they improved to 5-10 vs….For most of the time since Buck Showalter has been O’s manager, when the team won it usually had a lot to do with the pitching.

Five different O’s drove in runs as the Orioles posted thier first series win this year vs. an AL East opponent other than Boston and they improved to 5-10 vs. the Rays.

It was also just the Orioles second win this year in games that decide the winner of a three-game series. They had been 1-12 in those contests, including a mark of 1-7 at home.

The O’s took a 2-0 lead in the first as Nick Markakis and Corey Patterson knocked in runs. Patterson’s two-run homer in the third gave the O’s a 4-1 lead.

After Tampa rallied for four in the 6th vs. Chris Tillman and Jim Johnson for a 5-4 edge, the O’s came right back with a four-run 6th for an 8-5 lead.

That O’s rally featured RBI from Josh Bell, Brian Roberts, Markakis and Luke Scott.

Chris Tillman, making his first big league start since July 19, gave up three runs and six hits over 5 1/3 innings.

Alfredo Simon pitched a scoreless 8th and Koji Uehara retired Ben Zobrist, Carl Crawford and Evan Longoria in order in the 9th, two on strikeouts, to record his 6th save as the O’s improved to 24-18 in one-run games, 7-2 under Showalter.

The Orioles begin a six-game road trip Monday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. at New York when Brian Matusz (7-12, 4.72) faces A.J. Burnett (10-12, 5.15).

In three career starts at Yankee Stadium, Matusz is 1-2, 1.37.
