A frustrating night with a frustrating ending for the Orioles.
They loaded the bases with one out in the last of the ninth, trailing 4-3, but could not tie it or pull the game out in a 4-3 loss to the Royals in the opener of a two-game series.
Joakim Soria struck out Ty Wigginton on a 1-2 pitch and Miguel Tejada grounded out on a 1-2 pitch as the O’s left the bases loaded in the final inning.

The O’s went 1 for 12 with runners in scoring position in the game and left ten men on base.
Wigginton had 2 RBI for the O’s and Tejada drove in the other run as each team had ten hits.
Losing pitcher Brad Bergesen, after giving up just one run over his last two starts, allowed four runs over 6 2/3 in falling to 3-3, 5.45.
The O’s had won five games in a row decided by one run. The O’s have lost three in a row and scored just six runs in those games. They are 12-27 on the year.
