The Athletics began the year going 5-10, but are 10-6 since for an overall 15-16 record. They are 2-5 in their past seven games. Oakland is 8-6 at home and 5-1 in one-run games.
O’s right-hander Andrew Cashner (1-4, 4.76 ERA) tonight makes his seventh start for his new team. Cashner had a 2.50 ERA with a .194 average against in his first three starts. But he is 0-3 with a 7.31 ERA and a .319 batting average against in his last three.
He allows a .273 average versus lefty batters, .246 against right-handers and .175 when pitching with runners in scoring position. Cashner has made two road starts, going 1-1 with a 3.00 ERA.
The A’s starter tonight is right-hander Daniel Mengden (2-3, 4.68 ERA), who will be making his seventh start and his fifth at home. He is 2-1 with a 3.74 ERA over his last four starts after going 0-2 with a 6.55 ERA over his first two. He is 5-4 with a 3.06 ERA over his last 11 starts, dating back to Sept. 9, 2017, after going 2-10 with a 6.86 ERA over the first 16 starts of his career.
Mengden took the loss in his last start, which came against Houston. He went 2 1/3 innings and allowed six hits and five runs. He had given up two runs in 14 1/3 in his previous two starts. He allows an average of .212 versus lefty batters and .338 against right-handed hitters. He has never faced the Orioles.
