SEATTLE – After being outscored by 20 runs during a three-game series where they were swept in Oakland, the Orioles road trip moves to Seattle tonight. The O’s (21-53) will by trying to snap a season-long eight-game win streak in tonight’s series opener.
Baltimore has been outscored 75-26 during the season’s longest losing stretch, topping the seven straight losses from May 18-24.
They lost by scores of 3-2, 16-2 and 8-3 in Oakland. The Orioles offense came up with only seven runs and 13 hits in that series. They are 12-25 in road games and have lost nine straight road series. The last two games, the O’s bullpen allowed 18 runs and four home runs over 8 2/3 innings.
Infielder Hanser Alberto has hit safely in 22 of his last 30 games, with multi-hit contests in 11 of those 22, including in seven of his last 14 games. Since May 20, he is hitting .363 (37-for-102) with five doubles, one home run, eight RBIs, and 12 runs scored and he leads the American League in batting average during this span. He is hitting .429 (39-for-91) against left-handed pitching this season, best in the majors among qualifying hitters.
Right-hander Dylan Bundy (3-8, 4.44 ERA) gets the start for the Orioles in the series oepner. Bundy has allowed three earned runs or fewer in eight straight starts. In those eight games since May 1 he is 3-4 with a 3.09 ERA. Lefty batters hit .252 with an OPS of .738 off Bundy and right-handers hit .233/.806.
Bundy will be making his second career start (and fourth appearance) against the Mariners, and his first of the 2019 season. He’s gone 1-0 with a 1.23 ERA and a .137 (7-for-51) opponents batting average against in all appearances.
Seattle is in last place in the AL West at 32-46. The Mariners are 10-23 since they were 22-23 on May 14. In their past 39 games, they are 12-27. Seattle is 14-24 at home and 7-11 this month.
The Mariners are using an opener tonight in right-hander Tayler Scott (0-0, 7.71 ERA). Lefty Wade LeBlanc (3-2, 6.20 ERA) is the likely pitcher after that. LeBlanc allowed six runs in 2 2/3 innings Saturday at Oakland.
