The Orioles are considering calling up Triple-A Norfolk outfielder Chris Parmelee, who is off to a good start with the Tides.

The O’s offense has produced just two runs in this series and just 41 runs in 15 games this month as the team has gone 5-9 in May.

Parmelee-Hitting-Black.jpgOrioles executive vice president Dan Duquette, in an interview this afternoon on 105.7 The Fan’s “Orioles Baseball Today” show mentioned Parmelee and said it is a “distinct possibility” he could get a call-up to bolster the team’s corner outfield play.

In 36 games with the Tides, the 27-year-old Parmelee is batting .348 with 11 doubles, three homers, 22 RBIs, a slugging percentage of .496 and an OPS of .926. He is batting .400 against right-handed pitching. Duquette added that Parmelee’s defense has been solid in left field and right field for the Tides.

Will today be the day the Orioles get some offense going?

They have lost by scores of 3-1 and 6-1 the last two nights to the Los Angeles Angels and have just eight hits in the series.

In 14 games this month, the Orioles have a team batting average of just .217 and have scored 41 runs.

On the mound for the Orioles this afternoon will be right-hander Mike Wright, who is making his major league debut. In six starts this year for Triple-A Norfolk, he went 3-0 with a 2.64 ERA. His last start for the Tides was May 6 against Syracuse and he went five innings, allowing three hits and one run, throwing 82 pitches.

Right-hander Garrett Richards (3-1, 2.27 ERA) gets the start this afternoon for the Angels. He has allowed two earned runs or less for four straight starts and has given up just one run in each of his last three starts, going 2-0 with an ERA of 1.37.

In 31 2/3 innings over his five 2015 starts, Richards has allowed just 18 hits for a .165 opponent average against with 16 walks and 29 strikeouts.

Angels starting pitchers are 4-0 with an ERA of 1.54 over their last five games and have an American League-leading 22 quality starts.

The Orioles’ Jimmy Paredes has now hit safely in 13 of his last 14 games batting .321/.367/.518 after going 1-for-4 last night. He has hit safely in 20 of 23 games for the year.
