The Orioles’ annual green cap auction raised more than $7,900 to benefit Marie Selby Botanical Gardens in Sarasota. The donation will be presented in a pre-game ceremony when the Orioles take on the Atlanta Braves in the final home game of Spring Training on Friday, April 3 at 6:05 p.m. The auction featured specially-designed, green O’s caps worn by players and coaches at the St. Patrick’s Day game on March 17.
“The Orioles are proud to support the mission of Selby Gardens, a world-renowned botanical research center and leader in environmental education,” said David Rovine, Vice President of Orioles-Sarasota. “Selby Gardens, which attracts more than 130,000 guests annually, promotes understanding of the natural world and stimulates advocacy for plant habitat conservation.”
The Orioles host “Go Green” Day, presented by Waste Pro, at Ed Smith Stadium each Spring Training season to highlight environmental stewardship in the community. The stadium is one of the most environmentally-friendly ballparks in the nation, featuring recycling, reclaimed water for toilets and irrigation, and solar panels and roofing materials that conserve energy. The Orioles also are a partner in Sarasota County’s “Green Business Partnership” program. Additional information on the Orioles’ commitment to the environment at Ed Smith Stadium can be found at www.orioles.com/sarasota.
