Tonight, for a change, it was the other team that made mistakes with the O’s taking advantage to get an important victory. The Orioles beat the Yankees 5-4 in the series opener at Camden Yards.
It ended with Alfredo Simon on the mound, picking up his first save since he was in the minors in 2005. He hit 96 and 97 on the stadium gun and got A-Rod out with runners on first and third and two out in the 9th. Oh, yes there was drama at the end.

The Orioles three-run 6th, which produced a 4-2 lead, began with two outs and none on when the NY bullpen walked a guy and hit the next batter on an 0-2 count.
Boone Logan walked Luke Scott in the 6th, then David Robertson hit Ty Wigginton. Three straight RBI singles followed from Rhyne Hughes, Nolan Reimold and Cesar Izturis.
The O’s took advantage of a Derek Jeter error to take a 5-2 lead in the eighth. His error on a grounder leading the inning later came around to score on an Izturis single.
Izturis entered tonight with one RBI in 51 at bats on the year and he had three tonight.
This is the O’s first home win after an 0-6 start and first win in the opening game of a series this year.
They are 2-2 in a 12-game stretch vs. Boston and New York.
