Showalter, 54, has compiled an 882-833 record in 11 seasons as manager of the New York Yankees (1992-95), Arizona Diamondbacks (1998-2000) and Texas Rangers (2003-2006). A two-time Manager of the Year (1994 and 2004), Showalter’s 882 wins are 10th-most among active managers and 65th all-time.
Juan Samuel will return to his original duties as third base coach after going 16-31 as interim manager, and Gary Allenson will head back to Triple-A Norfolk. The coaching staff apparently will remain intact for the remainder of the season.
