The Orioles stayed unbeaten, winning their 58th home opener by beating the Tigers 5-1 before a sellout crowd of 46,593 at Camden Yards.
The Orioles have their first 4-0 start since 1997. Just once in franchise history have the Orioles produced a 5-0 start and that was in 1970.
Brian Roberts’ three-run homer in the 5th broke a 1-1 tie and it was his second key three-run shot in three days. Roberts now has two homers and 8 RBI while the rest of the team combined has 8 RBI.
The O’s got a fourth straight solid outing by their starting pitcher. Jake Arrieta gave up six hits and one run over six innings, throwing 99 pitches.
Arrieta got the win and is now 3-0 with an ERA of 2.31 over his last four starts, dating to last season.
O’s starters have pitched to an ERA of 0.69 during the unbeaten start, allowing just two runs and 12 hits over 26 innings. Opponent batters are hitting just .136 on the season vs. those starters, going 12-for-88.
The heart of theTigers order, Magglio Ordonez, Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez went a combined 1-for-12 today vs. Orioles’ pitching.
After Tuesday’s off day, the O’s host the Tigers here on Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m.
