SAN FRANCISCO – Orioles reliever Darren O’Day flew back to Baltimore this morning because of a sore right shoulder, which team orthopedist Dr. Michael Jacobs will examine on Saturday.
O’Day experienced discomfort in the shoulder yesterday in the eighth inning while allowing an inherited runner to score and two runs of his own.
Tyler Wilson is on the taxi squad today and could be recalled Saturday if O’Day goes on the disabled list.

Manager Buck Showalter said he wasn’t going to use O’Day in this series, and the Orioles are off Monday. Showalter is hoping O’Day will get good news from Jacobs and be available by Tuesday or Wednesday.
O’Day missed seven weeks of the season with a strained right hamstring, rejoining the active roster on July 24. He allowed three runs and two hits and walked two batters in one-third of an inning on Aug. 5 in Chicago, threw a scoreless inning Monday in Oakland and allowed two runs and two hits and walked a batter in one-third of an inning yesterday afternoon.
Steve Pearce took batting practice today and could be in Saturday’s lineup against Giants left-hander Madison Bumgarner.
Outfielder Joey Rickard will have his right thumb examined Wednesday in Baltimore by hand specialist Dr. Kenneth Means.
Double-A Bowie left-hander Chris Lee is throwing from 60 feet while on the disabled list with a lat injury.
