I suppose that made a 4-0 deficit tonight against Scott Feldman seem a lot smaller.

We’ll see how they handle a 6-3 deficit.

The Rangers jumped all over left-hander Brian Matusz in the first inning, but the Orioles fought back with three runs in the top of the second to cut the Rangers’ lead to 4-3.

Nelson Cruz hit a three-run homer in the first to cap a four-run uprising, but the Orioles answered right away.

I’m especially impressed that the rally began with a one-out single by Lou Montanez, who hasn’t played since May 5 and probably needs directions to home plate. Cesar Izturis singled because he must really want to bat cleanup on this team, and both runners scored on Corey Patterson’s double. Patterson came home on Ty Wigginton’s single.

Montanez also singled in the third inning. OK, Lou, you’ve made your point.

I doubt that the scoring is over. This should be a wild one.

Update: Oh no. Matusz is gone after only 2 1/3 innings. He gave up seven runs and eight hits. Not exactly what you expect from him, especially after his seven scoreless innings on Saturday. Then again, he allowed six runs and nine hits in 3 2/3 innings in the previous start.

If you’re keeping a Nolan Reimold journal, he’s in left field tonight for Triple-A Norfolk. He’s also 0-for-2 with a walk and a run scored.

Robert Andino homered for the Tides, who lead Pawtucket, 7-0, in the sixth inning. Brandon Snyder is 2-for-3 with three RBIs, and Scott Moore has driven in two runs.

Jake Arrieta has allowed four hits, walked two and struck out seven in his five scoreless innings.

Update II: Make it seven scoreless innings for Arrieta, with two walks and 10 strikeouts. He threw 111 pitches, 75 for strikes, and left with a 1.93 ERA. Moore drove in his third run.
