CHICAGO – The Orioles made another flurry of roster moves this afternoon in Chicago.
Relievers Chayce McDermott and Yaramil Hiradlo were recalled from Triple-A Norfolk. Albert Suárez was placed on the 15-day injured list with right elbow discomfort, ending his season, and Carson Ragsdale was designated for assignment.
Ragsdale was optioned yesterday before the DFA.
The Orioles also claimed left-hander José Castillo on waivers from the Mariners, but he hasn’t reported.
Infielder Jordan Westburg is with the club and said he’s ready to go, but the Orioles didn’t announce a move with him.
Kyle Bradish is making his fourth start. He’s posted a 2.65 ERA and 0.941 WHIP with four walks and 21 strikeouts in 17 innings.
Bradish held the Pirates to one run over seven innings in his last start. His only career appearance at Rate Field was May 26, 2024, when he tossed seven hitless innings with 11 strikeouts.
The current White Sox are a collective 0-for-7 with four strikeouts against him.
Bradish hasn’t allowed more than two runs in his last 10 road starts, one short of tying John Means for the club record. Hoyt Wilhelm also did it in 10 consecutive away games. Trevor Rogers, Miguel Gonzalez and Pat Dobson are next with eight in a row.
The Orioles will try to rebound from being swept by the Blue Jays in a three-game series in Toronto. They swept the White Sox in a four-game series in Chicago last season and won two of three in Baltimore. They swept a three-game series at Camden Yards earlier this year from May 30-June 1.
The Orioles are 9-1 against the White Sox since the start of last season, the best record by any American League team against an AL opponent, per STATS.
Gunnar Henderson owns a .465 on-base percentage against the White Sox, his highest versus any opponent. Henderson ranks first on the Orioles this season with 62 RBIs, the lowest total for any team leader in the majors. The White Sox’s Lenyn Sosa is next with 68, per STATS.
Jackson Holliday has a 10-game road hitting streak, the longest all-time for an Orioles player age 21 or younger.
Left-hander Tyler Gilbert is the opener tonight. He’s registered a 4.17 ERA and 1.257 WHIP in 41 games (three starts). He’s never faced the Orioles.
Gilbert hasn’t allowed a run in four appearances this month over 4 1/3 innings.
Right-hander Sean Burke will be used in bulk relief. Burke, a third-round pick in the 2021 draft out of the University of Maryland, is 4-10 with a 4.35 ERA and 1.467 WHIP in 25 games (21 starts). He hasn’t gone more than five innings in a start since working 5 1/3 on June 19, but he went six in relief and allowed one run on July 2 at Dodger Stadium.
Burke pitched in bulk relief against the Orioles on May 30 at Camden Yards, his only career game against them, and allowed two runs in six innings.
Ryan Mountcastle is 2-for-2 against Burke.
The White Sox are in last place in the American League Central with a 57-93 record, the worst in the American League. They won nine of 11 before the Guardians swept them in Cleveland.

Westburg is the Orioles’ nominee for the prestigious Roberto Clemente Award, presented annually to the player who “best represents the game of baseball through extraordinary character, community involvement, philanthropy and positive contributions, both on and off the field.”
The winner will be honored at the World Series.
The Orioles will recognize Westburg in a special on-field ceremony at Camden Yards on Saturday, and Major League Baseball will make a donation to a charity of his choice.
From the club’s press release: “Westburg is active in the greater Baltimore community, which included his volunteer work at several non-profits during the Orioles’ 2025 Birdland Caravan. His efforts included wrapping diapers at ShareBaby, organizing books at the Maryland Book Bank, preparing athletic gear for underserved youth with Leveling the Playing Field, and assembling Narcan kits and foster care bags with Break a Difference.
“In April, Westburg played a key role in unveiling the newly renovated outdoor classroom at Harlem Park Elementary Middle School. The dedication of the classroom, which was funded through a playoff share donated by the 2024 Orioles, also marked the first anniversary of the Orioles’ Adopt-A-School partnership. Westburg and (wife) Anna Claire attended the dedication and even took time to read to the students before that night’s game.”
