The Orioles today announced that they have acquired infielder/outfielder Jahmai Jones (juh-MY) from the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for right-hander Alex Cobb. The Orioles 40-man roster currently has 40 players.

Jones, 23, made his Major League debut in 2020 for the Angels, appearing in three games and collecting three hits in seven at-bats. Jones has appeared in 484 career minor league games, slashing .258/.338/.386 (491-for-1900) with 90 doubles, 24 triples, 35 home runs, and 96 stolen bases. Defensively, he has appeared in 225 games at second base and 235 games in the outfield in the minors. He was named the Angels Minor League Player of the Year in 2017 after hitting .282/.348/.446 (146-for-518) with 29 doubles, seven triples, 14 home runs, 86 runs, 47 RBI, and 27 stolen bases in a combined 127 games between Class-A Burlington and Class A-Advanced Inland Empire. He was named a MiLB.com Organizational All-Star in both 2016 and 2017. Jones was ranked as the Angels No. 7 prospect, according to MLB.com and their No. 8 prospect, according to Baseball America. He was originally selected by the Angels in the second round (No. 70 overall) of the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Wesleyan (GA) School.
Cobb, 33, went 2-5 with a 4.30 ERA (25 ER/52.1 IP) with 38 strikeouts in 10 starts for the Orioles in 2020. For his Orioles career, he went 7-22 with a 5.10 ERA (123 ER/217.0 IP) and 148 strikeouts in 41 starts.
