The Orioles today announced that they have agreed to terms with right-handed pitcher CHRIS BASSITT on a one-year major league contract for the 2026 season.
Bassitt, 36, went 11-9 with a 3.96 ERA (75 ER/170.1 IP) on 174 hits (22 HR), 80 total runs, 52 walks, 13 hit batters, and 166 strikeouts in 32 appearances (31 starts) for the Toronto Blue Jays last season. He made seven relief appearances during the 2025 Postseason, recording a 1.04 ERA (1 ER/8.2 IP) with 10 strikeouts.
The 11-year veteran has made 232 career appearances (218 starts) between the Chicago White Sox (2014), Oakland Athletics (2015-21), New York Mets (2022), and Blue Jays (2023-25), going 83-65 with a 3.64 ERA (517 ER/1278.2 IP) and 1,191 strikeouts.
Bassitt earned his first career All-Star Game selection in 2021 with the Athletics and is one of seven major league pitchers to make at least 30 starts in each of the past four seasons. In 2023, his 16 wins tied current Oriole Zach Eflin for the AL lead, while his 33 starts tied five others for the league lead.
The Toledo, Ohio native was selected by the White Sox in the 16th round of the 2011 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Akron (OH). He was acquired by Oakland from the White Sox along with catcher Josh Phegley, infielder/outfielder Rangel Ravelo, and infielder Marcus Semien in exchange for right-handed pitchers Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa on December 9, 2014. On March 12, 2022, Bassitt was traded to the Mets in exchange for right-handed pitchers J.T. Ginn and Adam Oller before signing a three-year contract with Toronto on December 16, 2022.
The Orioles’ 40-man roster currently has 40 players.
