OAKLAND – The Orioles moved their West Coast trip to Oakland for a three-game series before the Athletics relocate to Sacramento next year.
Ryan Mountcastle is in the lineup tonight and batting third. Adley Rutschman is the designated hitter.
Colton Cowser is in center field, with Austin Hays in left and Anthony Santander in right. Jorge Mateo remains at second base, with Jordan Westburg at third.
Albert Suárez stays in the rotation while Cole Irvin moves to the bullpen. Suárez has registered a 2.43 ERA and 1.247 WHIP in 17 games (10 starts). He tossed four relief innings against the Athletics in April and allowed four runs and seven hits with six strikeouts. Seth Brown homered.
In three career appearances against Oakland, Suárez has allowed nine runs and 15 hits in 12 2/3 innings.
Suárez tossed six scoreless innings against the Rangers in his last start, his highest innings total since July 3, 2016.
The Orioles lost two of three games to the Athletics at Camden Yards. They went 6-1 against the A’s last season, including 3-0 at the Oakland Coliseum.
The Orioles outscored the A’s by 21 runs in Oakland and had 20 more hits. Their five three-homer games against the Athletics since the beginning of last season are tied for the most by any team versus a non-division opponent, per STATS.
More from STATS: The Orioles have a combined OPS of .892 from the first and second hitters in their lineup, the second-highest in the majors behind the Dodgers’ .928. The Athletics have a combined .620 OPS, the lowest in the majors.
Oakland left-hander Hogan Harris, a former third-round draft pick, has registered a 3.18 ERA and 1.311 WHIP in eight games (six starts). He made his last appearance in Arizona and allowed three runs and 10 hits in 3 1/3 innings.
Left-handers are hitting .290/.371/.484 against Harris and right-handers are hitting .240/.306/.405.
The A’s are coming off back-to-back shutout wins over the Angels. Seven of their 33 wins have come via shutouts.
