Orioles and Blue Jays lineups for second game of series

Dylan Beavers moves up to second in the Orioles’ lineup today, the first time he’s hit higher than fifth in the majors. He’s in right field, with Jeremiah Jackson on the bench.

Tyler O’Neill is the designated hitter again and is batting cleanup. Coby Mayo returns to the lineup at first base and is batting ninth.

Samuel Basallo is catching. Dylan Carlson is in left field and Emmanuel Rivera is at third base again.

Tomoyuki Sugano takes his turn today after leaving his last start with a sore right foot. He was hit by a sharp one-hopper and limped to the dugout.

Two of his first three starts in the U.S. came against the Blue Jays. He allowed two runs in four innings in his debut in Toronto and three runs and eight hits in 4 2/3 at Camden Yards.

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. went 3-for-5 with a double.

Gunnar Henderson owns an .892 OPS against the Blue Jays this season.

Jackson Holliday is batting .456 when ahead in the count this season and has hit six home runs in those situations.

The Orioles lost last night, 6-1, and Trevor Rogers exited after five innings with a blood blister underneath the nail on his left big toe. He’s expected to make his next start.

Rogers allowed an unearned run and lowered his ERA to 1.43.

Future Hall of Famer Max Scherzer in on the mound today for Toronto. He’s posted a 4.36 ERA and 1.157 WHIP in 14 starts. He’s surrendered three runs in each of his last three starts totaling 14 1/3 innings.

Scherzer’s first outing this season came against the Orioles on March 29, when he allowed two runs in three innings. Colton Cowser and Jordan Westburg hit home runs.

Scherzer has made 17 career starts against the Orioles and posted a 3.53 ERA and 1.075 WHIP.

O’Neill, who returned from the injured list yesterday, is 0-for-9 with six strikeouts. Carlson is 2-for-15 with a double and six strikeouts.

Colton Cowser is 2-for-4 with two home runs.

Scherzer’s ERA has jumped to 7.53 over his last three starts compared to 1.80 in his previous four starts.

Blue Jays batters lead the majors with a 78.6 percent contact rate and the Orioles rank 27th at 73.2, per STATS.

Chayce McDermott is on the medical taxi squad again today, according to reports out of Toronto. The Orioles are likely to go with a bullpen game on Sunday.
