Ramón UrÃas has moved to second base, with Hanser Alberto now the designated hitter. UrÃas hit his first career home run last night and is batting .381 (8-for-21) with two doubles, a homer and three RBIs in nine major league games.
Austin Hays is leading off and playing left field. He’s a career .296 hitter (50-for-169) in 52 September games, with eight of his nine home runs coming during the month.
Ryan Mountcastle is at first base. DJ Stewart is the cleanup hitter and right fielder.
Left-hander John Means makes his 10th and final start of the season. He’s allowed three runs with two walks and 21 strikeouts in his last three outings over 17 2/3 innings.
Means struck out 12 batters in 5 2/3 innings in his last start.
Tonight marks the second start for Means against the Blue Jays in Buffalo. He faced them on Aug. 28 and allowed two runs in four innings on solo homers by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Teoscar Hernández in the fourth.
Matt Shoemaker is trying to build back up after being sidelined with right shoulder inflammation. He’s made six starts and posted a 4.71 ERA and 1.081 WHIP in 28 2/3 innings.
Shoemaker missed a month before returning on Monday and throwing 54 pitches in three innings against the Yankees. He’s 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA and 0.656 WHIP in five career starts versus the Orioles, walking three batters and striking out 41 in 32 innings.
