SAN FRANCISCO – The Orioles have lost eight of their last nine games, but they have left-hander Trevor Rogers on the mound this afternoon at Oracle Park.
Take the guy with the 1.40 ERA any day.
Rogers has allowed one run in each of his five starts this month totaling 35 innings. He’s struck out 36 batters.
In his final start in July, Rogers shut out the Rockies on one hit over seven innings. If he isn’t Most Valuable Oriole, he’s no worse than the runner-up.
Rogers has made three career starts against the Giants and posted a 2.63 ERA and 1.098 WHIP in 13 2/3 innings. He allowed two earned runs and three total in five innings in his only appearance in San Francisco.
Rogers has thrown six-plus innings and allowed two earned runs or fewer in nine consecutive starts, joining Philadelphia’s Cristopher Sánchez as the only pitchers to accomplish the feat this season. Zack Wheeler is the last pitcher to do it in 10 or more starts (11) in 2024.
Also impressive is how Rogers has worked seven innings in three straight outings, the first Oriole to do it since Corbin Burnes last season. Chris Tillman is the last with a four-start streak in July 2016.
Orioles pitchers have allowed at least 10 runs in 16 games this season. They’ve allowed 15 or more three times, their most since 2019 (six).
Jeremiah Jackson is at third base today and Samuel Basallo is catching. Daniel Johnson is in left field. Coby Mayo is the first baseman, with Ryan Mountcastle serving as designated hitter.
Mountcastle is batting .322 (19-for-59) over his last 15 games since Aug. 13. He improved last night to 7-for-15 in six games against Robbie Ray.
Jackson Holliday has scored a run in six straight road games, longest active streak in the majors.
Giants rookie right-hander Carson Seymour, a Mets sixth-round pick in the 2021 out of Kansas State, has made 10 relief appearances and allowed nine earned runs (11 total) in 21 2/3 innings. He hasn’t thrown more than three innings or 54 pitches.
Right-handers hit .208/.296/.479 against Seymour, and left-handers hit .314/.385/.571.
The Giants have won six games in a row.
