SEATTLE – The Orioles will go for back-to-back series sweeps today and run their winning streak to six straight games with Colton Cowser getting a rest day and Jorge Mateo playing center field.
Adley Rutschman is the designated hitter. Ryan O’Hearn is playing first base, with Coby Mayo on the bench.
Heston Kjerstad gets another start in right field. Emmanuel Rivera is at third base.
Zach Eflin has a 4.46 ERA and 1.091 WHIP in 40 1/3 innings. He shut out the White Sox over seven innings in his last outing after surrendering seven home runs in the previous two.
Eflin has never pitched in Seattle.
The Orioles can move 11 games below .500 for the first time since May 14. They’ve won eight of 10.
Today could mark the first six-game winning streak since June 7-12, 2024.
Jordan Westburg will be the designated hitter tonight for Triple-A Norfolk and the Orioles will decide afterward whether to reinstate him from the injured list.
“It’s gonna be day-to-day,” said interim manager Tony Mansolino. “Right now, to be honest, we’re making sure he feels right with how he feels on the field. Not necessarily his hamstring, but just playing baseball. When you miss a month of playing baseball, it’s unrealistic to expect everybody to go play five, six games like Cowser and feel incredible and look incredible.
“We’re just gonna go day-by-day with Jordan and when he’s ready and when we’re ready, then you’ll see him.”
Right-hander Bryan Woo has posted a 2.82 ERA and 0.953 WHIP in 11 starts. He’s never faced the Orioles.
