PITTSBURGH – Colton Cowser is in left field for today’s series opener against the Pirates at PNC Park.
Austin Hays is on the bench.
Ryan O’Hearn is the designated hitter. Jordan Westburg is playing second base, and Ramón Urías is the third baseman and looking for his first hit.
Grayson Rodriguez held the Angels to one run in six innings and struck out nine batters in his first start.
The Orioles have allowed four runs or fewer in their first six games, tied for their second-longest streak to begin a season. They did it in seven in 2002.
Pirates right-hander Jared Jones made his major league debut Saturday in Miami and allowed three runs and three hits with 10 strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings. He was drafted in the second round in 2020 out of La Mirada High School in California.
The Pirates won their first five games and are 6-1 and leading the National League Central. Today is their home opener.
Five different relievers have recorded saves – David Bednar, Aroldis Chapman, Josh Fleming, Jose Hernandez and Hunter Stratton.
The Orioles are making their first visit to PNC Park since 2017, when they were swept in a two-game series in September. They’re 13-7 against the Pirates since 2010.
Former manager Jim Leyland is throwing out the ceremonial first pitch.
