The Orioles continue to check the trade market for outfielder Nolan Reimold, who was designated for assignment this week. They’d rather deal him than lose him on waivers.
The Orioles signed their ninth-round pick in the 2014 draft, University of Mississippi third baseman Austin Anderson. All draft selections from rounds three through 10 have officially signed with the club.
Left-hander Tsuyoshi Wada was named to Pacific Coast League All-Star team. He’s 9-4 with a 2.55 ERA in 16 starts with Triple-A Iowa.
Wada never pitched for the Orioles after signing a two-year, $8.15 million contract in December 2011. He underwent ligament-reconstructive surgery on his left elbow on May 11, 2012, and the Orioles declined the $5 million option on his contract over the winter.
Reliever Alfredo Aceves has received a 50-game suspension without pay after a second positive test for a drug of abuse in violation of the Minor League Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.
Aceves, who had been pitching for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, signed a minor league deal with the Orioles in January and spent most of spring training with them before opting out of his contract. Evan Meek beat him out for the final bullpen spot.
I’d like to know which drug of abuse turned Aceves into one of the strangest cats in baseball.
