Maikel Franco has multiple hits in four of his last six games after doing it in three of 28.
Rookie left-hander Keegan Akin tossed five scoreless innings in his last start against the Indians and has surrendered one run in 9 1/3 innings since getting back into the rotation.
Akin was used for three innings out of the bullpen in a May 20 game against the Rays and allowed two runs and five hits. His second major league appearance came at Tropicana Field on Aug. 26, 2020 and he retired the only batter he faced.
Rays left-hander Ryan Yarbrough has a 3.95 ERA and 1.136 WHIP in 12 games, including eight starts. He went six innings against the Orioles on May 19 and allowed three earned runs (six total) and seven hits in six innings in Tampa Bay’s 9-7 win.
Mancini homered twice off Yarbrough. Freddy Galvis also took him deep.
Tonight marks Yarbrough’s 10th career appearance and fifth start against the Orioles. He’s 3-1 with a 3.40 ERA and 1.238 WHIP in 47 2/3 innings.
Yarbrough is working on seven days’ rest after going the distance June 3 at Yankee Stadium and throwing 113 pitches in a 9-2 win.
The Rays are in first place in the American League East with a 39-24 record, winners of 20 of their last 25 games. They have a plus-75 run differential.
